Message I don't see how the 8-bit ECU was in any way limiting the hardware. This pedigree AAC was already in production and working well for the Z31, right? To Bernie's point why redesign what ain't broken?

I also believe the system is too complicated, but another thing to consider is consistency and robustness. Just because you could get the system to work with fewer components doesn't mean it could be reproduced reliably on a production line with such tight tolerances at the throttle body or AAC... and if not perhaps the control on some cars would start hunting while others would not. That would be a production nightmare.
